The target o f ours and activity
area:
We plan to mark out the longest and highest
bike trail without any support at the end of 2008. The area of our activity is situated in the
most volcanically and seismically active part of our globe, which is called “TheRing of Fire”. This is the place where the greatest number of volcanoes can befound and where earthquakes are thought to be nothing extraordinary. The goal
of the project of ours is to travel the range of the Andes from Santiago to
Trinidad. The path is 5 000
km long and leads through the wildest terrains of the
Andes. Due to the height, wind and lack of water and roads, riding on a bike
will be a challenge for us, not to mention the main goals of the expedition.

The date of
departure and the completion date:
The bike-trekking expedition “South America Expedition” is planned to take
place at 2008 (summer on the southern hemisphere). Duration – 2 months.
Main
targets:
1. Marking out the longest
and highest bike route in the world without any support.
2. Trekking to climb the
highest mountain of both Americas - Aconcagua 6962m
(the third mountain counted among the Seven Summits which will be
climbed by us – we will get to its base by bike).
3. The highest uphill by bike in the world - Aucanquilcha 6176m – our bikes will reach the summit together with us

Aconcagua 6962m Aucanquilcha 6176m
4. Ollague Volcano 5870m
(by bike)
5. Exploration of the driest desert in the world - Atacama.
6. Solar de Uyuni – the remains of a salty lake. Uyuni is the biggest saltyh
area in the world and simultaneously it is one of the most flat terrains all
over the world (3653 above the mean sea level)
8. The research range of
the expedition – influence of the height on the behavior and human’s bodies
reaction during huge physical effort, during bike ride in mountain and desert
terrain.
The routhe
of dead:
The route we plan to mark out (with no support) will lead through the wildest
terrains of the Andes. It will pass through a dozen of mountain gaps and uphill
roads above 4, 5 and even 6 thousand meters. There will be the highest summit
of both Americas on our way – Aconcagua (6962 m), Ollague Volcano (5870 m). The
driest desert in the world – Atacama - will surely give to us a rough ride, as
well as the Uyuni solar. A following problem will be the water and provisions’
supply for two months. It can be solved by use of liophilisated eat and by a
water filter together with water treating tablets. Thanks to this solutions,
dozens of useless kilograms to carry can be omitted.
The
research and exploration history:
Aconcagua (6962 m) is
counted among the Seven Summits and is being explored yearly. The other thing
is Aucanquilcha Volcano 6176 m. This is the highest mountain in the world to be
climbed by bike. In accordance with the information we collected, one only one
team succeeded to do that. During the climbing we will study the behavior of
human’s organism – what is the key to succeed as far as uphill roads are
concerned. The topic concerning the influence of height on the human’s organism
is well known (thanks to mountaineering expeditions). However, reactions and
behavior of a biker were not taken into consideration. Other attempts were
taken to climb the mountain by bike (including a Polish one in 2006). All of
them failed. The exploration history of this mountain is really poor – we are
the ones to enrich it.
Theschedule of the expedition:
The expedition will start at the airport in Santiago (Chile). Despite the factthat there are hardest mountains to climb on the list (Aconcagua 6962 m) the
expedition has to main goals; marking out the longest and highest bike route in
the world as well as climbing the highest uphill road by bike 6176m. At the
very first day will we start riding by bike, which will accompany us till the
end of the trip. The first few days will be spent in the Andes, where we want
to pass through 4-5 thousand meters gaps. Thanks to this acclimatization we
shouldn’t encounter any problems with climbing the highest mountain of both
Americas and the second among Seven Summits (after Mount Everest) – Aconcagua. We
plan to climb it in alpine style (fast and spectacularly). After a short break
(1-2 days) we will head north on our bikes. There are some gaps higher than
Mount Blanc in front of us. In the middle part we will wander around the
plateaus and desert terrains (Atacama – the driest desert in the world, Uyuni
the biggest salty area in the world). The third phase is to complete the main
target. Thanks to the distance passed during the first and the second phase, as
well as thanks to the acclimatization we will be able to look at the climbing
of Aucanquilcha (6176 m) realistically. Our plan can also be well prepared
thanks to our former achievements and experiences. Should there be enough time,
we will climb Ollague Volcano (5870 m) by bikes.
Our expedition in numbers:
5000 - passed by bike
6962 – the highest point of our trip
6176 – this height will be reached by bike
60 – duration of the journey (in days)
45 – the weight of the luggage of each of us
50 – height difference during the journey (in km)
366 – days, organization of the undertaking
450 – hours will be spent on bikes
14 – number of gaps, which are higher than 4,5 and even 6 thousand meters to
pass
Cooperation:
During the organization of the very expedition, any financial, material landlogistical help counts. Each form of support will be awarded appropriately with
our promotional actions. All the interested companies are asked to mail us: duszak47@interia.pl
The media interested inengaging travel topics are welcomed as well. We have professional pictures,
